Other Questions About Our Pet Care Exchange Community and Membership

Q. What pets are allowed?

A. Most common pets in our community include all breeds of dogs and cats, birds in their cages, small mammals and reptiles in their habitats.

Q. What pet care/boarding/sitting/walking services are offered?

A. Community members are capable of offering the services below. When you complete your profile you specify what services you can offer.

Boarding/Kenneling: board your pet overnight and close to home with a fellow pet owner/lover in their “home sweet home”, or travel with your pet and board him/her with a member who lives near your travel destination.

Day Care: find a member — close to work, home or any other location — to care for your pet during the day.

Play Dates: you and your pet meet other community members and pet lovers in your neighborhood.

Dog Walking: Dogs need to be walked whether you have time for it or not. Dog walking exchanges are a great way to exercise your dog when you just can't get to it. Arrange with other members for morning or evening walks and leverage your day and night work shift schedules.

Administration of Medications: find a member to help you with your pet’s medications when you are not available.

Q. Can I mix and match services? For example, can I provide cat-sitting services and ask other members to provide overnight dog boarding or dog-walking services to me?

A. Yes. Mixing and matching services is permitted. Each service you provide (boarding/kenneling, day care, play date, dog walking or administration of meds), earns you points that are tracked in your account. You then can “spend” these points when you have other members provide services for you. For example, you can earn points for cat sitting for another member’s cat, and later “spend” some of these points having another member walk your dog.

Q. How do I know I will find the best match for my pet?

A. You will know when you meet the Host and their pet prior to exchanging services. To assist you prior to that meeting, you benefit from a sophisticated computer system and matrix, which — thanks to our elite tech team in Silicon Valley — is the “brains” of ComeOverRover.com. Based on the information that members provide in their profiles, you can search and then further narrow your search. You can also view detailed profiles of each member and their pet or pets. If you meet a member and determine that he/she is not the best match for your pet, simply search again and find another member.

Q. Does any money change hands between members?

A. NO. No money changes hands between members. When one member provides a service for another, members exchange “points”. The member receiving the pet care service transfers points to the member providing the service. There is no charge for points. ComeOverRover.com uses points merely to track member activity. Members with large positive point balances have “given” a lot. Members with large negative point balances have “taken” more than they have received. Since we are a self-governing community points assist members in making sure they have given and taken equally.

Q. What inspired this pet lovers community to come together?

A. The founders of ComeOverRover.com, Dan and Marco love animals and wanted to help provide a safe, loving and inexpensive alternative to commercial pet boarding. Marco adored Mr. Cat, a huge Bombay, for 20 years until he drew his last breath. He still thinks of Mr. Cat often. Marco then rescued another cat from a shelter for his nine-year-old adopted son Ethan. Marco's son was living in a Russian orphanage before he was adopted, so his son named the cat, Koosh, based on the Russian word for cat.

Dan also has a nine-year-old "kid": a boxer-mix named Shatzi. Dan has also always planned to adopt a child: just like with pets, there are so many neglected and maltreated children around the world. Dan was inspired by the adoption of Marco's son, and by the nine years of wonderful companionship and unconditional love Shatzi has given him. Dan wanted to find an alternative to the cold, harsh, and unloving environment of commercial boarding. That is how ComeOverRover.com was born. Now Shatzi can be in the care of a pet-loving member when Dan travels.

As a nine-year-old boxer mix, Shatzi-boy is sadly nearing his final days. The best ongoing memorial to Shatzi will be the knowledge that many pets around the world will now have safe and loving care when their owners travel. ComeOverRover.com will also ultimately save dog, cat and pet owners bundles of money in pet care costs and that will hopefully prompt many to use those savings to rescue a pet from a shelter. Furthermore ComeOverRover.com is 100% committed to its mission as it proudly donates a percentage of all profits to no kill shelters. Shatzi's legacy will continue to live on, as we continue to help save other animals' lives and improve their quality of life.

Q. What are members' responsibilities for providing pet care service to other members in the ComeOverRover.com community? What happens if I accept more care for my pet than I provide?

A. The community is based on care exchange — give and take. How it works is that each service is allocated a point value. Members accrue points when hosting another’s pet and use up points when other members care for your pet. Our computers track your point balance, which can be viewed in your profile. Thus, if you accept more pet services than you provide, you incur a negative balance. You are permitted to carry a negative balance; however, you may not exceed a balance of -400 points. Once you reach such a large negative balance, you cannot request care from another member until you increase your balance.

Q. I am scheduled to go away on vacation soon and would like to have someone watch my pet. I do not have a large point balance in my account. How can I build up points quickly?

A. Members can access our “billboard” that contains a list of all open pet care requests in your area. Contact a member who has an immediate need for service, and you can perform the service and earn points before you go on your vacation.

Q. I have more than one pet, and plan on using the services of other members more than once during the next year. Do I have to pay extra for this?

A. NO. There is only one fee per member per year. But, if you ask that another member watch more than one pet, you will have to “spend” more of your points. Thus, you will have to provide additional services to other members to “earn” points in your account.

Q. What is a Pet Foster Parent?

A. Pet Foster Parents do not own pets; they are people who have owned pets before or are considering adopting a specific pet-type that they want to become familiar with. They are part of the community as Hosts only. A Pet Foster Parent can search our billboard of open requests to find the exact pet he/she would like to “parent”.

Q. Does someone screen the members?

A. Yes. You do! We are a self-governing community: members rate other members through feedback ratings that are available on the member's profile for all to view. After a service is performed, members fill out a Feedback Form rating the Host, the Owner and the pet — from one to five "doggie bones". In addition, an activity scale shows how often a member has received pet services and how often he/she has provided services. A member who does something completely inappropriate is given a "red flag". BEFORE you meet another member you should review their ratings, their pet’s ratings, along with their past activity.

It is exclusively up to the members to interview each other as necessary, and to make sure that they are making the “best match” in choosing a member to care for their pet. ComeOverRover.com consists of animal lovers who own and have experience with pets. Having this common bond makes it easy for our members to relate with each other. Members quickly reach an adequate comfort level. Most members joined ComeOverRover.com because they are caring and loving individuals that want the best for their pets and others’ pets. Try a free search and you will see real member profiles. Finally, members are encouraged to read and refer to the Pet Exchange Etiquette Guide before exchanging services.

Q. Is the Free Search the same as the Member’s Search?

A. No, some fields are available to members only. Also, the functionality to “connect” with others is only available to members.

Q. Is there a benefit to me if I Refer a Friend?

A. Yes! For every friend or family member you refer who joins ComeOverRover.com you receive one extra month of membership. Thus, if you sign up for 2 years and during that time 10 friends or family sign up, then we add 10 months to your renewal date. You can Refer a Friend now, if you think they would like to join our pet lovers’ community.

Q. If I provide a service for another member, do I have to pick that member to provide the service to me when I need pet care? Or can I ask any member to provide the pet care for my pet?

A. When you require pet care, you can request that any member assist you in your pet care request. You can search our database and find the member who best matches your needs by filtering your search using criteria important to you. When you find the member/s you like, you will then send that member/s a request for pet service. Of course, you can always make the request of the same member who helped you.

Q. Does anything change if I move to a new city?

A. No. ComeOverRover.com members are now signing up throughout the country. As soon as you move, you will have a chance to quickly meet pet lovers in your new neighborhood. You will need to update your Profile and contact information, but your points, past activity and feedback all stay the same.

Q. What happens if my pet becomes ill or injured while in the care of another member?

A. The Pet Care Exchange Etiquette recommends emergency procedures. It is ultimately your responsibility to coordinate how you would like your pet to be cared for in your emergency. Discuss this with your Host before you select a Host. You know how the saying goes . . . “If you discuss it, you probably won’t need it.”

Q. What recourse do I have if I receive bad service for my dog, cat, pet?

A. As a self-governing community we rely on every member to complete a feedback form after each service. If you feel the service was not up to par, you should rate them with one “doggie bone” so all in the community can benefit from your feedback. For drastic situations where you feel this person or their pet should not be a part of the community, we do provide a “red flag” option. This action should be taken extremely seriously, since after a member receives three red flags, they and their pet can no longer remain part of our community.

Q. What is the cost to join ComeOverRover.com?

A. We are running specials in most areas of the country where you may be able to JOIN FOR FREE TODAY. Complete the registration process to see what special we are running in your area. Members get unlimited pet care from other members at no charge. All you have to do is reciprocate, a bargain when compared to prices for boarding, kenneling, or otherwise caring for your pet. You and your pet will also have the opportunity to meet other pet lovers like yourself in your area, so hopefully you will never have to cage your pet in a kennel again! Your pet will be in the loving care of another pet owner residing as a pampered guest and part of the family in the Host’s own “home sweet home!” Please refer friends or family! Last but not least, we are 100% committed to our mission and contribute a percentage of the proceeds to no-kill animal shelters.

Q. Is my data secure and protected?

A. Yes. We make a very clear delineation between what data is private and what data is available for other members to view. You are also encouraged to review our privacy policy.

Q. Will I get emails to my email account, or do I have to log in to the site?

A. You get emails to both your personal email account and your ComeOverRover.com InBox, for activity that occurs within the ComeOverRover.com community.

Q. Can I breed my dog with another member's dog?

A. Yes. Just contact them by searching for a playdate. In the email, tell the other member you are interested in breeding.
